Body Awareness: Affective Logbook

This method encourages participants to explore and document their emotional and physical responses to learning environments, fostering self-awareness and deeper understanding of how affect influences their experiences. By tracking and reflecting on these experiences, participants can gain insights into their learning process and emotional landscape.

When to Use

Use this method when you want participants to become more attuned to their emotional and physical states in relation to learning or working environments, promoting self-reflection and emotional intelligence.

How It Works

Solves: Lack of self-awareness, difficulty understanding emotional responses, disconnect between mind and body.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps to facilitate this method
  1. 1

Step 1: Introduce the concept of 'affect' and its impact on learning. (15 mins)

  2. 2

Step 2: Guide participants in creating a personal affective logbook, encouraging creative expression (poetry, drawing, music, etc.). (15 mins)

  3. 3

Step 3: Provide guiding questions for affective experiences (posture, sensations, tension, breathing, focus). (15 mins)

  4. 4

Step 4: Allocate dedicated time each week for participants to make entries in their logbooks. (4 hours)

  5. 5

Step 5: After each entry, invite participants to engage in freewriting reflection on the impact of expressing their thoughts and feelings. (15 mins)

  6. 6

Step 6: Guide students to assess their affective logbook entries and freewriting reflections, allowing them to gain deeper insights into their affective experiences and consider ways to integrate this awareness into their lives. (15 mins)

  7. 7

Step 7: Instruct students to create a physical product that represents their non-cognitive affective learnings. (5 hours)

  8. 8

Step 8: Create an immersive and engaging experience that allows viewers to connect with the affective products and reflect on their own emotions and experiences. (2 hours)
