When to Use

Use this method when you want to foster a deeper connection to the environment, encourage sensory awareness, and promote collaborative creativity within a group.

How It Works

Solves: Disconnection from nature, lack of environmental awareness, limited sensory experiences.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps to facilitate this method
  1. 1

Step 1: Register Sensorial Perceptions (2 hours). Gather participants at a chosen outdoor location (e.g., beach, forest). Guide them to observe materials, focusing on sight, touch, smell, sound, and (if safe) taste. Encourage them to note their bodily sensations.

  2. 2

Step 2: Gathering Materials (1.5 hours). Instruct participants to collect materials, recording their location and quantity in relation to observed environmental qualities. Encourage them to note their sensory experiences and associated thoughts/memories.

  3. 3

Step 3: Filling Bags (15 mins). Have participants choose materials to bring back to the classroom, remaining mindful of their surroundings and the objects they collect. Encourage reflection and sharing of thoughts.

  4. 4

Step 4: Reflection and Presentation (15 mins). Upon returning to the classroom, have participants empty their bags and choose one object to present to the group, sharing their reflections on sensory experiences, associations, and memories.

  5. 5

Step 5: Collaborative Artwork Creation (2 hours). Invite participants to form teams based on common interests and create a collaborative artwork using the collected materials, reflecting their shared understanding. Conclude with group presentations and discussions.

Facilitator Tips
