Goodbye Ritual
This activity provides a symbolic way to release negative experiences, emotions, or relationships from the past year. It helps participants create closure and move forward with a sense of renewal.
Use this method to help individuals or teams let go of baggage, resolve conflicts, and create a fresh start.
Solves: Holding onto negativity, unresolved conflicts, difficulty moving forward.
- 1
Step 1: (5 min) Introduce the activity and explain the purpose of symbolically letting go of the past.
- 2
Step 2: (10 min) Participants individually reflect on what they want to leave behind in the past year (e.g., negative emotions, limiting beliefs, unresolved conflicts).
- 3
Step 3: (10 min) Participants write or draw a representation of what they want to let go of on a piece of paper.
- 4
Step 4: (5 min) Participants symbolically release what they have written or drawn, either by burning the paper (safely), shredding it, or performing another meaningful ritual.
- Emphasize the importance of safety if burning the paper.
- Create a supportive and respectful environment for participants to share their experiences.
- Instead of burning, participants can bury the paper, release it into a body of water, or transform it into something new.
- Participants can share their intentions for the new year after the ritual.
