When to Use

Use this method when you need to stimulate creative thinking, encourage mindful observation, and help participants connect with their surroundings to generate new ideas for a specific challenge or project.

How It Works

Solves: Lack of creative ideas, stale perspectives, disconnection from the environment

Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps to facilitate this method
  1. 1

Step 1: Preparation (5 minutes). Ensure each participant has a mobile device with internet access, earbuds, a notebook, and a pen. Download the audio track if streaming is unreliable.

  2. 2

Step 2: Introduction (5 minutes). Explain the purpose of the Inspiration Walk: to practice observation and find inspiration in the environment. Emphasize that there are no right or wrong answers.

  3. 3

Step 3: The Walk (15 minutes). Instruct participants to start the audio track, put on their earbuds, and begin their walk, following the audio prompts and recording their observations.

  4. 4

Step 4: Debrief (10-15 minutes). Facilitate a group discussion using the 'What? So what? Now what?' structure. Encourage participants to share their experiences, insights, and how they might apply their newfound inspiration.

Facilitator Tips
  • Emphasize the importance of being present and open to new experiences during the walk.
  • Encourage participants to share specific examples from their walk during the debrief.
Variations
  • Conduct the walk in a specific location relevant to the challenge.
  • Have participants share their observations in pairs before the group debrief.
  • Use visual prompts instead of audio for a non-audio variation.
