Names Stock Market

Names Stock Market is a dynamic icebreaker that blends name recognition with a trading game. Participants actively engage with each other, collecting sets of names through blind trading, fostering energy and connection within the group.

When to Use

Use this method at the beginning of a workshop or meeting to help participants learn each other's names in a fun, interactive way, especially when the group is new or unfamiliar.

How It Works

Solves: Shyness in introducing oneself, difficulty remembering names, lack of initial engagement.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps to facilitate this method
  1. 1

Step 1: Prepare index cards (5 per person) and ask each participant to write their first name on each card. (5 minutes)

  2. 2

Step 2: Collect and shuffle all the cards, then deal 5 cards to each person, instructing them not to look at their cards yet. (5 minutes)

  3. 3

Step 3: Explain the trading rules: simultaneous trading, one-for-one exchanges (up to 3 cards at a time), and blind trading (no showing cards). (2 minutes)

  4. 4

Step 4: Start the trading! Participants call out the number of cards they want to trade and find partners. (Until someone wins)

  5. 5

Step 5: The first person to collect a matching set of five cards announces their win. Repeat if desired.

Facilitator Tips
  • Emphasize the 'blind' trading aspect to encourage interaction.
  • Monitor the energy levels and adjust the duration as needed.
Variations
  • Allow participants to show one card during trading.
  • Introduce 'market crashes' where everyone has to discard a card.
