NYE Reflection Timeline
This method helps individuals or teams reflect on the past year by visually mapping significant events, highs, and lows on a timeline. It fosters a deeper understanding of patterns and learnings to inform future actions.
Use this method at the end of a year or project to facilitate reflection, identify key learnings, and promote a sense of closure and forward momentum.
Solves: Lack of shared understanding of past events, difficulty identifying patterns, superficial reflection.
- 1
Step 1: (5 min) Introduce the activity and explain the purpose of reflecting on the past year.
- 2
Step 2: (10 min) Individually, participants create a timeline representing the past year, marking significant events, travels, and professional milestones.
- 3
Step 3: (15 min) Participants add 'Highs' (positive experiences) and 'Lows' (negative experiences) to the timeline, focusing on emotional impact.
- 4
Step 4: (20 min) In small groups or as a whole, discuss the similarities and differences in experiences, identifying patterns and key learnings. Explore how to maintain positive outcomes and prevent negative ones from recurring.
- Encourage participants to be honest and vulnerable in their reflections.
- Provide prompts to guide reflection, such as 'What surprised you this year?' or 'What are you most proud of?'
- Add optional rounds to map travels, listens/reads, events, pictures, and energy levels.
- Use different colored markers to represent different categories of events or emotions.
