When to Use

Use this method when you want to build stronger team cohesion, encourage participants to reflect on their values, and create a shared understanding of purpose within a group.

How It Works

Solves: Lack of shared understanding of team values, difficulty connecting on a personal level, superficial communication.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps to facilitate this method
  1. 1

Step 1: Locating Inner Values (30 mins) - Introduce the concept of inner values and have each participant select their top 5 values from Brené Brown's 'Dare to Lead' list. Ask them to reflect on why these values resonate with them.

  2. 2

Step 2: Shared Values (20 mins) - Form groups of 4-6 based on shared values. Facilitate a discussion about the values and guide the group to create a shared top 5 values list.

  3. 3

Step 3: Crafting a Shared Story (4 hours) - Instruct groups to develop a narrative that reflects their shared values, decide on an overarching storyline, and record their story in audio format. Suggest using izi.travel to compile the story as a publicly available audio guide.

  4. 4

Step 4: Sharing the Story (1 hour) - Have each group share their story with the larger group. Guide participants to provide constructive feedback, focusing on how the values were expressed in the story.

  5. 5

Step 5: Refining the Story (2 hours) - Instruct groups to analyze the feedback they received and make necessary adjustments to their story to enhance its impact and coherence.

Facilitator Tips
  • Create a safe and inclusive environment for sharing personal values.
  • Provide clear guidelines for constructive feedback.
Variations
  • Create a visual story instead of an audio story.
  • Focus on a specific challenge or opportunity related to the team's work.
