Sync Claps

Sync Claps is a dynamic circle exercise designed to enhance group focus and alignment through synchronized clapping. It encourages non-verbal communication and heightened awareness among participants.

When to Use

Use this method at the beginning of a workshop or meeting to energize the group, build rapport, and establish a shared sense of rhythm and coordination.

How It Works

Solves: Lack of focus, poor communication, or a disconnect within a team.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps to facilitate this method
  1. 1

Step 1: (2 min) Have participants stand in a circle, ensuring everyone can see each other clearly.

  2. 2

Step 2: (3 min) Explain that one person will start by turning to their neighbor and clapping together simultaneously. The 'clap' then travels around the circle.

  3. 3

Step 3: (5-10 min) Instruct the group to increase the speed and synchronization of the claps as they become more comfortable.

  4. 4

Step 4: (5-15 min) Introduce the 'double clap,' where two claps reverse the direction. Emphasize the need for non-verbal communication to signal the change.

Facilitator Tips
  • If the group struggles with the double clap, pause and debrief. Ask them what's making it difficult and what they need to improve.
  • Encourage eye contact and non-verbal cues to enhance synchronization.
Variations
  • Introduce different sounds or movements instead of claps.
  • Vary the number of claps to create more complex patterns.
  • Blindfolded Sync Claps: Participants close their eyes and rely solely on auditory cues.
