Two Truths and a Dream

Two Truths and a Dream is a get-to-know-you icebreaker that encourages participants to share facts about themselves, including an aspiration. This activity builds connection and sparks curiosity as participants guess which statement is the 'dream'.

When to Use

Use this method at the beginning of a workshop or meeting to help participants relax, learn about each other's interests and aspirations, and build a sense of community.

How It Works

Solves: Difficulty connecting on a deeper level during initial introductions; superficial icebreakers that don't foster genuine interest.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps to facilitate this method
  1. 1

Step 1: Explain the activity. Each person will share three 'truths' about themselves, one of which is actually a dream or aspiration. (2 minutes)

  2. 2

Step 2: Provide an example. Share your own three statements, modeling the type of sharing you're looking for. (2 minutes)

  3. 3

Step 3: First volunteer shares. Invite the first person to share their three statements. (2 minutes)

  4. 4

Step 4: Group guesses. Allow the group a minute to discuss and guess which statement is the dream. (2 minutes)

  5. 5

Step 5: Reveal and discuss. The volunteer reveals their dream and allows for a brief discussion. (2 minutes)

  6. 6

Step 6: Repeat. Continue with other volunteers until time is up or interest wanes. (Variable time)
