Walk & Stop
Walk & Stop is a dynamic energizer that promotes active listening and cognitive flexibility. By quickly responding to changing commands, participants sharpen focus and enhance group dynamics.
Use this activity as a quick and engaging warm-up to boost energy levels and improve focus before a meeting, training session, or team-building event.
Solves: Lack of engagement at the start of a session, difficulty focusing after breaks, or a need to improve team communication skills.
- 1
Step 1: Instruct participants to spread out in an open space. (2 minutes)
- 2
Step 2: Explain that when you say "WALK," they should walk, and when you say "STOP," they should stop. Practice for 20-30 seconds. (5 minutes)
- 3
Step 3: Announce that the commands are now reversed: "WALK" means stop, and "STOP" means walk. Continue for several minutes. (5 minutes)
- 4
Step 4: Introduce new commands: "NAME" (say your name) and "CLAP" (perform a simultaneous clap). Practice with "WALK" and "STOP." (5 minutes)
- 5
Step 5: Reverse the meanings of "NAME" and "CLAP." Continue playing, mixing all commands. (5 minutes)
- Start slowly and gradually increase the speed of the commands.
- Observe participants' reactions and adjust the difficulty accordingly.
- Use clear and concise commands to avoid confusion.
- Add more commands (e.g., "JUMP," "SPIN").
- Introduce commands with different actions (e.g., "RIGHT" means turn left).
- Have participants call out the commands instead of the facilitator.
