When to Use

Use this activity as a brief energizer or icebreaker to encourage collaboration and get participants moving. It's particularly effective when you need to break up long periods of sitting or introduce a lighthearted element to a session.

How It Works

Solves: Lack of physical engagement, low energy levels, or a need to build rapport between participants.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps to facilitate this method
  1. 1

Step 1: Form pairs, ideally with partners of similar size. (20 seconds)

  2. 2

Step 2: Demonstrate the activity: Stand facing a volunteer, hold hands, and show how to step in and out of the gap formed by your arms, alternating who steps in first. (1 minute)

  3. 3

Step 3: Instruct pairs to practice the 'wring-out' motion, experimenting with who steps in first and from which side. (3 minutes)

  4. 4

Step 4: (Optional) If time allows, invite participants to switch partners and repeat the activity. (1 minute)

Facilitator Tips
  • Ensure participants are comfortable with physical touch before starting the activity.
  • Encourage communication and patience between partners as they learn the movements.
Variations
  • Increase the challenge by having pairs try to complete the stretch without letting go of each other's hands.
  • Introduce a time limit to add a competitive element.
